Law 25

Built for Québec's Law 25

What a call leaves behind, where it goes, and the rights you and your callers have. In plain words.

Where it lives

Hosted in Québec.

The service runs in Québec, at OVHcloud in Beauharnois. A standby server and a backup copy of the database are kept in Toronto, so a failure in one city doesn't take your line down.

Understanding speech and writing summaries uses providers outside Québec, mainly in the United States. Each transfer is covered by a privacy impact assessment and a written agreement, and those providers may not use your data for themselves.

What a call leaves behind

Text for you. No audio, no voiceprint.

She says she's an assistant in the first sentence of every call. There's no setting to hide it.

A normal call is transcribed, not recorded. Your dashboard keeps the caller's number, the time, the summary and the transcript. You can delete any message yourself.

Audio exists in only two places: the voicemail used when every line is busy, where the caller hears a notice first, and the Voice Lab, which people join on purpose from age 18. No voiceprint is ever made, and no voice is ever cloned.

The people who call you

A caller never signed up, and we don't forget that.

A caller has no account with us. Their number and message are kept for you, in your dashboard, and nothing else. A caller can ask us to delete their message by writing to us.

Your rights

No forms for the two that matter most.

In the app, under Settings → Your data, Download my data gives you a file of everything we hold, right away, and Delete my account erases the account and everything in it, right away.

Any other request, such as access, correction, withdrawal of consent or portability, is answered in writing within 30 days. Archived messages are deleted 90 days after you archive them. Technical logs are kept 90 days.

Private by default

The most private setting is the one you start with.

No tracking cookies and no third-party analytics on thea.help. Marketing messages are a separate, optional choice. Any incident with a risk of serious harm is reported to the Commission d'accès à l'information and to the people affected, and we keep an incident register.
